Why Wine Corks?

15 years ago, I met this really wonderful guy who introduced me to wine. I started collecting corks from our special dates. We got engaged on the hillside of vineyard in California and married a year later at a Winery in Napa.

Along the way, we collected a lot of corks! The corks represented specials moments for us. Wine marked the special occasions in our lives: Birthdays, Holidays, job promotions, buying a house, the birth of our baby girl & (thanks to our babysitter) date nights!

I think each wine cork holds a unique story, from that moment in time when the wine bottle was opened. I love crafting these wine corks into objects that will make people smile. (I would like to take this moment to let you know that I am not able to drink enough wine to supply the demand of corks needed for my craft. I have to rely on my friends & family, who imbibe & save collect corks for my DiVine Animals. Not a bad gig, if you ask me.)

At my house we say, “When a champagne cork is popped, a baby reindeer is born!”

I started making Wine Cork Reindeer for family & friends as gifts during the holidays. Then, I decided to sell some Reindeer for a local Food Bank fundraiser at the office. The Reindeer sold like hot cakes! I woke up early. I stayed up late. I was trying to keep up with the daily requests for MORE Reindeer! Through the generosity of my coworkers & friends, I raised enough money for the Food Bank to provide 1065 meals for the needy during the holidays. I was honored. I was thankful. I was hooked.

After the fundraiser ended, I thought, ‘How can I continue my passion for creating these corks animals?’ (And let’s be honest, my ‘neat nick’ husband wasn’t going to let me continue monopolizing our home office with my craft, without a purpose.) So, I created DiVine Wine Corks.

I believe that part of the reason my page is here, is so that you would read this message right now, so I could tell you: Know that the world a better place because you are in it. :)
